Kosovo Women’s Entrepreneurship Event
On 26th of May – Prishtina, organized by Kosovo Women’s Chamber of Commerce “G7” Women’s Business Association “SHE-ERA”, Women for Women International and with the support of TEB program’s for the support and development of women entrepreneurship was organized “Kosovo Women’s Entrepreneurship Event”.
The event aiming promotion and institutional support of women entrepreneurs brought different parties in one place, from the business sector to governmental institutions and diplomatic representatives in support of the initiative to bring visibility for the unequal position of women in the business sector.
Kosovo stands in a very disadvantaged position in the region in terms of activity in the labor market, employment and entrepreneurship. The latest report, in 2013 shows that women in the labor market in Kosovo participate with 21.1% (Statistics Agency of Kosovo), while only 13% of SMEs are owned by women. These are among the lowest rates in the region.
The cooperation for advancement of women entrepreneurship will create new opportunities and contribution toward the advancement of women in the business sector. This event is among the first to bring many stakeholders as equal partners in support of the cause.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms. Hykmete Bajrami said: “This type of program and initiative are essential for the support and success of women entrepreneurs. The involvement of a financial institution such as TEB is appreciated and we hope that will serve as an example to the society.”
Mrs. Lendita Kastrati from Kosovo Women’s Chamber of Commerce “G7” said: “I consider that the empowerment of women in the economy is a prerequisite for a sustainable socio-economic development of the country. Also, by using women’s abilities we can influence the economic development, reduce poverty and increase social welfare”.
Ms. Ermira Kusari from Women’s Business Association “SHE-ERA” said: “Successful women are more than necessary not only for the welfare of Kosovo but also for the family, community and society. SHE-ERA during its 16-year experience has been an active part and has encountered many challenges of the unstable business environment. However the genuine collaboration with ambitions women, national and international partners have made our work to be fruitful.”
Ms. Iliriana Gashi from Women for Women said: “It is a special pleasure to be partners with TEB Bank in this project with a vision which supports women entrepreneurs in developing their ideas and initiatives.”
Mr. Ayhan Albeyoglu, the Managing Director of TEB said: “We highly value the cooperation of organizations and institutions and joining efforts in encouraging, supporting and developing the Women’s Entrepreneurship Program in Kosova”
Mr. Arton Celina, Deputy General Director of TEB said: “This program brings innovation to Women Entrepreneurship in Kosova. Among the main characteristics are access to finances, presenting the ideas of Women Entrepreneurs to the business community and receiving a valuable feedback on market environment.”
On this occasion women entrepreneurs who participated in Women’s Entrepreneurship Program and had a unique chance to be part and to benefit from the training and advisory program designed for women leaders and owners of start-up and beginner business in Prishtina, Prizren, Ferizaj, Peja and Mitrovica celebrated the graduation from the program.
The second part of the event brought women entrepreneurs in front of potential investors and facilitated a meeting where women not only had the opportunity to present their business ideas and projects and seek for potential investors but also receive advice and recommendations from the most successful businesses of the country.
